Blackmagic News March 2019
Blackmagic have posted a new video from their boss, Grant Petty, on their latest developments. This includes some new capture cards capable of capturing 4 sources at once, as well as details of their new camera updates.
The Blackmagic 4K Pocket Camera now supports Blackmagic RAW and has dropped support for Cinema DNG. In a nice straight forward explanation Grant says this is because someone has complained that they are violating a licence using DNG and so the simplest thing was to get rid of it and just use BM RAW instead.
Of course, what we now need is for other programs apart from Resolve to support BM RAW. Premiere & EDIUS do support loading DNG files, but they never worked that well – better in Premiere than EDIUS but still not that great. Hopefully, Adobe, Grass Valley and Avid will support BM RAW soon, although we have no indication from any of them if/when this will happen.
He also mentions a 15.3 version of Resolve will be out soon with some “big announcements” about Resolve coming at NAB in April. They have probably bought a photo editing program and crammed it into Resolve on a new tab 😉
